Clean up the worst offenders. You don’t need to fix everything. Identify the data quality issues that cause the most problems and address those first. Deduplication is usually a good starting point. Standardising key fields comes next.

Automate where possible. Every manual data entry point is an opportunity for error. Where feasible, automate data flows between systems. Use integrations rather than manual exports and imports. Set up validation rules that prevent bad data from entering in the first place.

Assign ownership. For each major dataset, designate someone as the data steward. They don’t have to do all the maintenance themselves, but they’re responsible for ensuring quality standards are met.
